Egg, Bacon, Sausage and Spam

I had some stuff half-heartedly done, but I got side tracked trying to hunt down a decent spam filter for WordPress. There’s one that comes with it, but it needs some sort of code from some registration or something. I don’t know, but I try to register with as few places as possible (in other words, any place I don’t absolutely need to). Since I installed this through my webhost instead of buying it—or however people obtain WordPress—I don’t have whatever perks you get by purchasing it yourself.

Everyone knows spam is a huge problem, so I won’t go on about it. But it’s gotten to the point here where I get about 25 spam comments for every actual comment. It’s strange, too, because they seem to center around a few individual posts. These aren’t particularly popular posts, or ones that have been linked to by anyone, yet the spam bots seem to latch onto them and keep spamming them. I could disable comments to these particular posts, but that’s not really solving the problem.

I found a spam killer plugin which was highly recommended ’round the nets, and I’m on-and-off trying to get it to work as I have time. That’s why some other stuff (like today’s entry) didn’t get completed. I am working on the Not A Blog™, but doing things that nobody else would really see. Except right now, because if you try and submit a comment, it gets blocked. I have to tweak the settings. This is something which I may or may not get to as the day goes on.

You would think the spam bots would at least have the common courtesy to wait until someone reads this, before they try and hawk their wares. Alas, they have no such honor.
