Hello. Welcome to the Not A Blog™.

The first thing I should mention is the whole “Not A Blog™” thing. It’s something of a running joke. For all practical purposes this thing is a blog, but I like to differentiate it from “regular” blogs—whatever that means—on a number of points. I post longer things on a set schedule rather than a bunch of small items whenever the inspiration hits. I generally don’t link all over the internet to the current hot sites, and I don’t maintain a blogroll. I don’t know what a trackback is. While I do discuss quite a bit of internet apocrapha and techology and science related things, I also talk about art, philosophy, literature, music, and so on. I try to keep posts about my personal life to a minimum unless it ties into something more interesting. I think all these things in aggregate make this something less of a blog in terms of how most people think of a blog, and so I claim to be Not A Blog™.

The trademark symbol is also a joke.

About me personally: I could pigeon-hole myself into any number of convenient stereotypes, but the one I choose is the following. I’m actually an extraterrestrial, raised as a human. Is this true? Probably not, but it’s a useful gestalt in which to consider me since, despite my best efforts to blend in thus far, most people eventually conclude that I’m strange. (I don’t understand small talk, for example, and I’m rather bad at it.) I have independently concluded that the rest of humankind is strange, and so the notion is reinforced. Actually, it turns out I have Asperger’s Syndrome.

Here’s a bit about my history as it pertains to my time on Earth. My name is Ted Stoltz. I have a BFA in graphic design and I work in marketing doing multimedia production. I help with independent films and I write. I guess I compose music, too, if programming notes into a sequencer counts as composition. I enjoy playing the piano, even though I don’t play well. I ride motorcycle.

More importantly, I’m a pixel-stained technopeasent futurist-wannabe.
